Farmhouse Style Remakes

Hi friends! Fall has finally arrived around here! The smell of fall is in the crisp air that blew in late last week.

I have a couple of farmhouse style remakes for you today.

I have this sign that I’ve had for years

and years. It’s been tucked away in the closet for years I think. So I decided to remake it into something farmhouse style for fall. I also have this black plastic picture frame that needs an update.

I’m going to start with the sign first. I removed the wire hanger by uncurling the ends with needle nosed pliers and pulling it out from the back.

I painted it black first and let it dry. I know you can still see the original lettering through the black acrylic paint but it’ll be ok. I gave it 2 coats of flat white acrylic paint, letting it dry between them.

Once it is completely dry I sanded it with a hand held sander to distress it a little bit. I wanted to see some black showing through to give it a worn look.

I have the word Welcome left from my package of tin words from the Dollar Tree that I used in this Farmhouse Wood Tray post.

I centered it on the painted sign and glued it on with a hot glue gun.

I love the way it looks!

I put it in a tin tray with some fall décor and I think it looks great.  This tray will look great from both sides on my island.

For now my side table will have to do because you know dinner prep has happened on the island and then there’s the mail.  Real life here people… real life. =)

Now I’m moving on to the picture frame.

I painted it with flat white acrylic paint. It’s kind of streaky looking after the first coat.

After it dried the second coat goes on great.

I used a wet distress method to give this a more distressed farmhouse look. After the second coat of paint has dried, I used a damp rag to gently wear away the paint in some areas of the frame.

I really like the look it gives.

I put a fall printable in the frame to display. I love it!

Which printable do you like the best? Let me know in the comments.

I’m glad you stopped by today! Come back soon!

Missy
