Make These Easy July 4th Firecrackers

If  you’re looking for a simple summer decoration then you need to make these easy July 4th firecrackers.  These wooden firecrackers are cute and super simple to make. I wanted something to add to my flower bed for the July 4th holiday, and firecrackers are perfect.
I made them using scraps from fence posts. My husband has been rebuilding the fence around our farm, and he had some scraps left over. I thought this was a perfect way to use them up.  If you don’t have anything like that, these firecrackers could easily be made from a landscape timber instead.

These firecrackers make the perfect summer decoration.

To make 4 firecrackers you’ll need 4 pieces of wooden post or landscape timber that are 12 inches, 16 inches, 18 inches and 20 inches long. If you’re using up scrapes, you can use any length of post you might have on hand. That’s what I did here.
Measure 4 inches down from the top of each firecracker and mark around the post. Paint this end of the post blue. Don’t forget to paint this end blue also.

Once the blue paint is dry, you’re ready to paint the stripes. I’m not all about perfection. I’m more of a “it’s good enough” kind of person. So, I used a 1 inch brush and just eyeballed the spacing. I painted the white stripes first. After they dried, I painted the red stripes. Then let it dry again.
The finishing touch for these firecrackers are the fuse. To make this I braided twine with a length of craft wire. Any wire would do. When I made the first fuse I didn’t use any wire and instead of standing up the wick just flopped over. The one of the left does not have wire and the one on the right does.  See what a difference the wire makes!
For each fuse cut 3 pieces of twine 12 inches long each and 1 piece of wire 12 inches long. Holding them all together, find the center by folding them in half. At the center point staple all three pieces of twine and the piece of wire onto the blue end of the firecracker.

You should be able to do this by placing one staple in the center of the post. Now braid the twine and wire. I just added the wire to 2 of my 3 sections of twine and braided. I secured the end by tying with a piece of twine.

Where will you display your firecrackers?

It’s as simple as that.  Where will you display your firecrackers?  I used my wooden firecrackers to decorate my flowerbed. They would also be cute on a porch or even a patio table centerpiece at your July 4th cookout.
I’m so glad you stopped by today! Come back soon!
